About Dr. Donahue
Dr. Paul J. Donahue is a
nationally-recognized
clinical psychologist and leading consultant and expert in the
field of parenting and childdren's mental health. He is the author of
"Parenting Without Fear"
(St. Martin's Press) and co-author of "Mental Health
Consultation in Early Childhood."
He is the founder and director of Child Development Associates, a practice based in Scarsdale, NY, providing parent education, professional development, school consultation, and psychological assessment and treatment for children and families.
In addition to his practice, Dr. Donahue is an accomplished lecturer/speaker, traveling throughout the country to schools and communities to speak to parents, teachers and mental health professionals on an array of critical topics affecting the psychological health of children.
Dr. Donahue has served as a consultant to the Columbia University School for Public
Health, the Georgetown University Child Development Center, the Connecticut Department
of Children and Families, and the National Head Start Association.
Prior to founding CDA, Dr. Donahue was the Director of Early Childhood Consultation
Services at The Center for Preventive Psychiatry in White Plains, NY for 11 years.
During his time there, he managed mental health practitioners in 25 child care centers,
Head Start programs and private nursery schools, and supervised clinical and research
teams in developing early childhood mental health curricula for educational settings.
Dr. Donahue was also director of the center’s School-Based Homeless Services Project, and
the senior clinician in a therapeutic nursery for severely traumatized children and their
families.
A native of Boston, Dr. Donahue received his B.A. in psychology from Brown
University. He received his Masters and Doctorate in clinical psychology from the
City University of New York, where he was awarded the Harold Proshansky Presidential
Fellowship for his dissertation research on the coping methods of homeless
children.
Dr. Donahue is a member of the American Psychological Association, has served on the American Orthopsychiatric Association’s Task Force on Child Mental Health, and was one of the founders of New York Cares. Dr. Donahue has also been awarded a special citation from the Better Homes Foundation of Boston for his work with homeless children and families
Dr. Donahue resides in Westchester County, NY with his wife and three children.
